The Time Before Time

  • In the time before time, Umashae the Earth Mother formed the world from primordial clay, created the Halflings, and gave birth to Ala and Omel. She also created Ganog Marr and Wella Marr, who in turn created Humans.
  • Ala and Omel created the Fairfolk and the Fiefolk, respectively, and peopled the worlds with them.
  • Ala and Omel also gave birth to the three sisters, the Eld, who in turn created the Feywild and the Fey, and Mathridd, who created the Feydark.

The First Age

The Cataclysm

Ala created the Fairfolk, who lived in the light, while Omel created the Fiefolk, who lived in the darkness, deep underground. Both races of these Firstfolk were powerful, arcane and magnificent in their own way. However, one day the Fiefolk grew jealous of the light in which the Fairfolk lived, and decided to wake the land, so that their underground cities could fly high in the sky, in the realm of Ala.

The Fiefolk, though not evil, underestimated the terrible cost they had to pay for waking the land. This was the Cataclysm, when all things ended. The land split and burst apart, into shards and broken pieces. Some of the land did end up sailing into the sky, but most of it was consumed in fire and flood as it quaked and shook.

Ala and Omel had to step in to settle the land. They buried the scars of the Cataclysm deep below the roots of the deepest mountains, and there too they buried the most dangerous and wicked of the Fiefolk, as punishment. The rest of the Fairfolk and Fiefolk formed an uneasy truce - seeing the damage they had caused, they agreed to retreat back into the Weave of Creation. Behind them, they left echoes, called the Elves and the Dwarves, which goes towards explaining the ancient enmity of the two races.

The Second Age (2/1 - 2/2430)

The Feydom of Rin

  • The Second Age began with the appearance of the Seelie Court in the world - the court of Queen Mayrin.
  • Mayrin emerged from the Feywild and decided that she and her creations, the Fey, could rule the world better than the creations of her parents.
  • She founded the Feydom of Rin.
  • She ruled the islands for over two millennia, ushering in a time of peace and prosperity.
  • Beautiful cities were built by the Fey, including Selbrin Adelior (now Spire) and Wenma Lansarore (now Wick).
  • Mayrin was worshipped by the Elves and Dwarves, and gave them a fair amount of autonomy.
  • Mayrin’s other siblings founded Feydoms of their own in distant lands.
  • This is also the beginning of recorded history - the Deep Words of the Dwarves, the Annals of Allindra the Silent of the Elves, and various Gnomish records.

The Twilight War (2/2118-2/2147)

  • In 2118, the Feydom of May was attacked by King Absolon, whose armies emerged from portals to the Feydark all over the Fey Isles.
  • The Twilight War continued for decades, until the Seelie Court were pushed into the corners and edges of their own dominion. Most of the Seelie Fey returned to the Feywild, but others disappeared into the world, mixing with the Elves and Dwarves.

The Feydom of Rith (2147-2430)

  • Absolon became the sole ruler of Yensmir, and controlled it for centuries, until a new threat came from the south – the armies of the Humans.
  • Elves, Dwarves, Gnomes, and Halflings were enslaved and forced to work on Absolon’s impossible projects and fight in his wars against the other Feydoms.

The Third Age (3/1 - 3/1015)

The Feywar (3/1 - 3/22)

  • The Humans appeared from the oceans to the south.
  • They allied with the other races and defeated the armies of Absolon, killing many Fey.
  • Absolon was forced back to the far north of Yensmir.
  • As Absolon and his court nursed their wounds and regained their powers, however, they were suddenly overrun by a terrible plague of unknown origin, which destroyed the remnants of Absolon’s forces. Absolon himself returned into the Feydark.
  • The gates to the Fey worlds were sealed by a powerful incantation created by members of all the races, and nobody was permitted ever to cross them again, in either direction.
  • A time of prosperity and innovation began.
  • New cities were built in the ruins of the Fey cities destroyed during the Feywar.
